Forcing rhubarb

This spring the rhubarb was old enough to have a go at forcing it, so I placed a barrel over the top of a clump and waited a few weeks. This is the first time that I am doing this and I will be doing it again!

After a few weeks we had a look what was underneath the barrel...... WOW!

We harvested what we wanted then let the plant recover and during this time the leaves when from their bright yellowish colour through the most spectacular colour changes....

Combined with the way that the leaves opened out when they grow it was very beautiful indeed.

And a close up of the topography of the leaf.
